English-Medium Schools, Coaching Centers to Close for Ramadan-Eid Holidays

Sunday, 08 March 2026 , 03:10 PM

The Ministry of Education has announced that all English-medium schools and coaching centers across Bangladesh will remain closed starting Monday (March 9) to observe the upcoming Ramadan and Eid holidays.

The directive aligns these institutions with the government's broader holiday schedule to ease traffic congestion in major cities, including Dhaka, and to accommodate the challenges presented by the current global economic climate.

The decision was finalized on Sunday during a policy meeting held at the Secondary and Higher Education Division, chaired by Education Minister A.N.M. Ehsanul Hoque Milon.

While standard academic activities are suspended, the Ministry has granted an exemption for institutions to conduct mandatory examinations that were previously scheduled, allowing them to proceed according to their original timetables.

During the meeting, officials discussed the necessity of balancing academic continuity with the practical difficulties faced by city dwellers during the holy month.

The suspension covers all coaching center operations, affecting both Bangla-medium and English-medium students.

Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division Abdul Khaleque and other senior officials were in attendance to confirm the policy, which aims to provide relief to students and families during this high-traffic period.
