Dhaka, London Discuss Expanding Education Ties; Milon Urges More UK Scholarships

Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has formally requested an increase in scholarship opportunities for Bangladeshi students pursuing higher studies in the United Kingdom.

The call for expanded academic support was made during a courtesy meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat, where a high-level British delegation, led by Deputy High Commissioner James Goldman, called on the minister. 

The meeting was attended by State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj and Adviser for Education and Primary and Mass Education Mahdi Amin.

During the session, the Education Minister expressed his sincere gratitude to the UK government for its "continued support to Bangladesh’s education sector and other areas." 

He specifically lauded the British Council for its effective role in enhancing English language education across the country.

Optimistic about future diplomatic and academic ties, the minister stated that he "hoped that the scope of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries would be expanded further in future."

In response, the Deputy High Commissioner commended the various initiatives undertaken by the Bangladesh government within the education sector and beyond. 

The British delegation also included Mohammad Golam Kabir from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), British Council Country Director Stephen Forbes, and Head of English and School Education Deepti Das.
