Tollywood actors Parambrata Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee have landed in legal trouble after a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against them for allegedly instigating post-poll violence.
According to a report by Indian media outlet Anandabazar, advocate Joydeep Sen lodged the FIR against Parambrata and Swastika at the Gariahat Police Station. The complaint centers around a social media post dating back five years.
Following the initiation of the police probe, actress Swastika Mukherjee was summoned for questioning.
In compliance with the orders, Swastika appeared at the Gariahat Police Station on Saturday (May 23) afternoon, where she was interrogated for nearly an hour. Following her appearance, attention has now shifted toward Parambrata.
The Contentious Post
According to the police complaint, on May 2, 2021—the day the election results were announced—Parambrata posted on social media, "Let today be declared World Thrashing Day." Reacting to the post, Swastika had commented, "Hahaha, let it be!"
The complainant argued that given the highly volatile political climate in the state at that time, such remarks aggravated the atmosphere of violence.
The FIR further noted that West Bengal was witnessing widespread political clashes, assaults, arson, and casualties during that period.
In this context, the complainant demanded that the actors' remarks be treated as provocative and instigating.
So far, neither Parambrata nor Swastika has publicly responded to the filing of the FIR.
