Water levels in five rivers across the country are currently flowing above the danger mark due to persistent heavy rainfall both domestically and in upstream regions, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).
Data released in a special flood forecast by the FFWC, measured as of 9 am on Friday, indicates that the Sangu River is running 95 cm above danger level at the Bandarban point and 23 cm above the threshold at the Dohazari point in Chattogram.
Meanwhile, the Matamuhuri River is flowing 47 cm above the danger mark at the Lama point in Bandarban alongside 32 cm above at the Chiringa point in Cox's Bazar.
In the northeastern region, the Kushiyara River is recorded at 18 cm above danger level at the Markuli point in Sunamganj and 10 cm above at the Fenchuganj point in Sylhet.
Furthermore, the Manu River is swelling 35 cm above the danger limit at the Manu Rail Bridge in Moulvibazar and 80 cm above at the Moulvibazar point itself, while the Khowai River registers 60 cm above the danger mark at the Balla point in Habiganj, the FFWC noted.
Beyond the rivers surpassing critical thresholds, the FFWC reported that water levels at several other monitoring stations remain dangerously high and are currently flowing within the alert limit near the danger mark.
These vulnerable stations encompass the Teesta River at Dalia in Nilphamari, Kaunia in Lalmonirhat, and Tarapur in Gaibandha; the Kushiyara River at Sherpur in Moulvibazar; the Surma River at Kanaighat and Sylhet, as well as Chhatak and Sunamganj; the Someshwari River at Kalmakanda in Netrakona; and the Choto Feni River at Companiganj in Noakhali.
