Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain announced on Wednesday that the government will begin the distribution of health and agriculture cards under a new pilot project starting late June.
Speaking as the chief guest at a humanitarian assistance program in Belabo Upazila, the Minister highlighted that this initiative is being launched under the direct leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to streamline social and medical benefits for the public.
During the event, which focused on distributing aid from the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Minister detailed several key welfare measures currently underway.
He noted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has already authorized the exemption of agricultural loans, including interest, for amounts up to BDT 10,000 to support struggling farmers.
Additionally, the government has commenced the distribution of honorariums for Imams, Muazzins, and priests across every union in the country.
Addressing broader governance goals, Minister Sakhawat Hossain reaffirmed the government's commitment to building a society free from social vices.
He specifically pledged to transform the Belabo-Monohardi constituency into a model zone free from narcotics and corruption, stating that this localized effort is part of a phased nationwide campaign to eliminate terrorism, drug abuse and systemic graft.
The program was presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Umme Hafsa Nadia and attended by Belabo Upazila BNP Convener Ahsan Habib Biplob along with various high-ranking government officials.
The Minister concluded by urging local authorities to ensure that all relief materials and upcoming digital cards reach the most distressed and deserving citizens without any administrative hurdles.
