Trump Orders ICC Sanctions Over Israel Probe

Friday, 07 February 2025 , 01:10 PM

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last year.

On Thursday (February 6), US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing sanctions on the ICC, citing unjustified investigations against the United States and Israel.

The order condemns the ICC's decision to issue an arrest warrant for Netanyahu, calling it an abuse of power. Trump met with Netanyahu on Tuesday, reinforcing his stance against the ICC's actions.

In October 2023, Hamas launched an attack on Israel, leading to Israeli military operations in Gaza. Several countries, including the United States, Germany, and Israel, have officially designated Hamas as a terrorist organization. Following these events, the ICC issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu.

Trump's order warns that the ICC's actions set a dangerous precedent. The newly imposed sanctions will ban ICC officials from entering the United States.

The order also emphasizes that Israel is a key US ally, and the arrest warrant against Netanyahu is based on unfounded allegations.

Neither the United States nor Israel is a member of the ICC.
