Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Iran's Defense Ministry has unveiled a new advanced ballistic missile called "Qasem Basir." The missile, revealed on May 4 during an interview on Iranian state TV with Defense Minister General Aziz Nasirzadeh, is reported to have a range of at least 1,200 km (745 miles).
Key features include solid-fuel technology, high precision without GPS, and the ability to penetrate enemy defense systems using advanced guidance and tactical strategies. The missile is designed to strike specific targets even in complex environments.
Nasirzadeh warned that if the US or Israel initiates conflict, Iran will retaliate against their interests and military bases, wherever they may be. He emphasized Iran's peaceful intentions with neighboring countries but issued a strong warning to the US.
The unveiling comes as regional tensions escalate following a Houthi missile strike near Israel's Ben Gurion Airport. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has vowed severe retaliation against both the Houthis and their Iranian backers.
Meanwhile, indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the US in Rome have been suspended, with no new date announced. US President Donald Trump reiterated the possibility of airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities if no agreement is reached. Iranian officials continue to assert their right to enrich uranium for potential weapons development.
