Estonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Margus Tsahkna, has highlighted the steady growth of bilateral relations between India and Estonia, forecasting a significant surge in cooperation across high-tech and strategic sectors.

Speaking in the capital city, Tsahkna identified Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity= and the Defense Industry as the primary pillars for enhanced business engagement. He noted that political ties are set to reach a new milestone, with the President of Estonia scheduled for an official visit to India early next year.

The Foreign Minister positioned Estonia as a strategic "gateway" for Indian enterprises looking to enter the European Union markets. Conversely, he emphasized that India’s vast and rapidly accelerating economy presents a prime expansion opportunity for Estonian firms.

“Political engagement is intensifying,” Tsahkna remarked, underscoring a mutual commitment to deepening the economic and technological bond between the two nations.

Referring to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' initiative, the Estonian Foreign Minister said it presents a significant opportunity for Estonian companies to form partnerships in India, introduce technologies and ideas and scale up operations.

Given the constraints of Estonia's small domestic market—with a population of approximately 1.3 million—Foreign Minister Tsahkna emphasized that international partnerships, particularly with a global giant like India, are essential for the nation's economic growth.

Tsahkna also underscored Estonia's position as a global pioneer in digital governance, noting that 100% of the country's public services are now available online. He identified e-governance, IT, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as key areas where Estonia’s proven expertise can complement India’s large-scale digital transformation efforts.

"We have 100% of all public sector services online. We have developed all of these in collaboration with our private-sector companies. All this experience can also be brought to India, and AI is something we can explore together as a future solution. We already have AI projects in education, and many of our public-sector services use AI solutions. I see this as a very fruitful collaboration in the future," he said.

Estonia is already utilizing AI to modernize its education and public sectors, marking it as a key area for future joint ventures with India. Tsahkna characterized the prospects of this partnership as "very fruitful," noting that closer cooperation in digital innovation and emerging technologies will be vital to the long-term growth of India-Estonia relations.
