Tehran Rejects Trump’s 48-Hour Ultimatum Over Strait of Hormuz

Sunday, 05 April 2026 , 08:25 AM

Iran has formally rejected a warning from U.S. President Donald Trump, who threatened that "hell will break loose" if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened within 48 hours.

The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Iran’s top military command, dismissed the ultimatum in a defiant statement issued Saturday.

General Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi characterized the President’s threats as the "desperate, bewildered, and unbalanced" actions of a reckless administration.

Trump’s Deadline
On Saturday, April 4, President Trump reiterated his demand for Tehran to unblock the strategic waterway by Monday. Posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, the President wrote:

"Remember, I gave Iran 10 days to reach a deal or open the Strait of Hormuz. Time is running out. Now there are only 48 hours left before hell descends upon them."

General Aliabadi countered the message with a stark warning of his own, stating that any U.S. aggression would mean "the gates of hell will open" for American interests instead.

Escalating Conflict
The diplomatic standoff comes amid a significant escalation in direct hostilities between Iran and Israel:

Israeli Strikes: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed responsibility for Saturday’s strikes on Iranian petrochemical plants—a vital pillar of Iran's economy—resulting in several fatalities. Reports also indicate strikes targeted the Bushehr nuclear power plant.

Infrastructure Damage: This follows previous claims by Israel to have neutralized 70% of Iran's steel production capacity.

Regional Fallout: Israeli airstrikes and shelling have intensified in Southern Lebanon.

Retaliation and Alliances
Tehran has responded by launching waves of missiles toward Tel Aviv. Meanwhile, Iran’s regional allies have expanded their involvement:

Hezbollah: The Lebanese group announced strikes on the Israeli city of Safed, the Meron air control base, Metula, and the Golani Brigade headquarters.

Houthis: Armed forces in Yemen confirmed joint operations targeting Israel in coordination with the "Axis of Resistance."

As the 48-hour clock ticks down, the international community remains on high alert for a potential widening of the conflict in the Middle East.
