Iranian state-affiliated media reported on Sunday, April 5, that the United States military is allegedly conducting airstrikes in areas where a missing American pilot may be located, following the downing of two U.S. aircraft by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to a report by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, military sources claim that after failing to rescue a pilot from a jet downed on Friday, April 3, U.S. forces have begun bombing specific coordinates within Iran to prevent the personnel from falling into Iranian hands.
Targeted Strikes Reported
Tasnim reports that U.S. warplanes conducted strikes Saturday night in parts of the Kohgiluyeh and Boyar-Ahmad Province.
Specifically, the strikes targeted the Kohgiluyeh district, where American search-and-rescue teams reportedly believe their missing pilot is hiding.
The Iranian narrative suggests these strikes are an attempt to eliminate the pilot rather than allow a high-value capture, though the Pentagon has not confirmed such drastic measures.
The Downed Aircraft
The escalation began early Friday morning when Iran claimed to have neutralized two sophisticated U.S. warplanes:
F-15 Strike Eagle: Iranian state television reported this aircraft was shot down over southern Iran. CBS News has confirmed the F-15 was carrying two crew members; one has been rescued, while the other remains missing.
A-10 Thunderbolt II: Iran further claims to have downed an A-10 Warthog that was deployed specifically to provide cover for the initial F-15 rescue mission.
A "Critical Mission"
White House officials have confirmed to U.S. media that search-and-rescue (SAR) operations remain active.
Security experts describe the current window as a "critical mission," noting that as time passes, the risk of the pilot being captured or succumbing to the rugged terrain increases significantly.
The alleged U.S. strikes inside Iranian territory mark a severe escalation in the direct confrontation between Washington and Tehran, as the 48-hour ultimatum regarding the Strait of Hormuz continues to loom over the region.
