Nigerian Diplomat Praises Gujarat's Growth and Diaspora's Role

Former Nigerian Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama met with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday, where he commended the state's development and the significant contributions of the Gujarati diaspora to Nigeria's progress.

Onyeama, visiting India as part of a cultural immersion program, expressed hope for stronger ties between India and Nigeria under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

During the meeting in Gandhinagar, Onyeama was joined by his wife. He praised Gujarat for its rapid development and its success in preserving its cultural heritage.

He specifically highlighted the Gujarati community's vital role in Nigeria's development and commended Gujarat's efforts to provide higher education to Nigerian students, which has helped strengthen ties between the two countries.

In response, Chief Minister Patel noted that Nigeria's participation in the G-20 Summit, driven by PM Modi's inclusive vision, has further bolstered bilateral relations.

Patel also expressed Gujarat's keen interest in collaborating with Nigeria on trade, industry, and investment.

Onyeama's visit to Gujarat included trips to the Statue of Unity and Maharaja Sayajirao University.

He is also scheduled to visit the National Forensic Sciences University and Gujarat Technological University.

The meeting was attended by several senior officials from the Gujarat government.

According to India's Ministry of External Affairs, India and Nigeria have a strong, friendly relationship.

As large developing democracies with diverse populations, they are considered natural partners.
