In an effort to promote austerity and fuel conservation amidst the current global economic climate, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ordered the number of vehicles in his official convoy to be reduced by 50%. The news was reported by the Indian media outlet NDTV.
According to reports, the Prime Minister directed the Special Protection Group (SPG)—the elite force responsible for his security—to slash the fleet size by half.
Additionally, he instructed officials to increase the use of electric vehicles within the convoy, explicitly specifying that no new vehicles should be purchased for this purpose.
NDTV stated that the SPG has already begun implementing this decision while ensuring that all mandatory security protocols outlined in the official "Blue Book" are maintained.
Following the Prime Minister's lead, several chief ministers from BJP-governed states have adopted similar measures.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav have all decided to reduce the number of vehicles in their respective official convoys.
