In a major push toward military modernization and self-reliance, India’s Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved a series of procurement proposals for state-of-the-art, indigenously developed defense equipment.

The total value of these acquisitions is estimated at approximately ₹52,000 crore.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the approval aims to bolster the operational readiness of the Army, Navy, and Air Force across all domains.

Strengthening Ground Forces
The procurement package for the Indian Army includes:

Akash Teer: An anti-drone electronic warfare system designed to neutralize aerial threats.

MPATGM: Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missiles to enhance infantry armor-piercing capabilities.

MRSAM: Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile systems to reinforce mid-range air defense.

VSHORADS: Very Short Range Air Defense Systems, capable of target acquisition and destruction even under advanced countermeasures.

Active Protection Systems & Kamikaze Drones: Advanced protection for tanks and cost-effective, high-impact precision strike drones.

Naval and Maritime Advancements
For the Indian Navy, the DAC has cleared:

MIGM: Multi-Influence Ground Mines to restrict enemy naval maneuvers.

NSUAS: Naval Shipborne Unmanned Aerial System for advanced maritime surveillance and situational awareness.

Testing Facility: A land-based testing center dedicated to electric propulsion systems, essential for the development and testing of future warship technologies.

Enhancing Aerial Intelligence
To support the Indian Air Force, the council approved the acquisition of Fixed-Wing High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (FW-HAPS) platforms.

These platforms are designed to remain airborne for extended periods, providing critical support for intelligence gathering, reconnaissance, telecommunications, and long-range surveillance missions, significantly extending the Air Force’s reach.

Strategic Goal: Self-Reliance
The Ministry of Defence stated that this latest round of approvals marks a significant step in the modernization of the armed forces.

By prioritizing indigenous technology, the initiative not only reduces dependence on foreign imports but also ensures that the Indian military is equipped with cutting-edge tools tailored to contemporary threats.

According to The Hindu, this comprehensive investment signals a major commitment to enhancing India's military posture across land, sea, and air.
