Delhi Police Raid Home of Man Who Supplied Food and Water to 'Cockroach' Protesters

Police in India have raided the home of a man named Mohammad Junaid after he distributed food and water during a protest led by the Cockroach Janata Party in Delhi.

Authorities detained his father and young brother during the raid. Furthermore, police also targeted Junaid's sister's home, detaining members of her in-laws' family.

The protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar lasted for 36 days, driven by allegations of question paper leaks in medical entrance exams.

The demonstrations concluded on Saturday, July 25, following assurances regarding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and a promise that no action would be taken against the protesters.

Throughout the 36-day protest at Jantar Mantar, numerous individuals supported the students by providing food and water, with Junaid being one of them.

A photograph of him distributing water during the demonstrations went viral on social media, drawing the attention of law enforcement.

Junaid told the local news outlet The Lallantop that police raided his home in Uttar Pradesh, detaining his father and younger brother. Additionally, police arrested his sister's father-in-law and brother-in-law from her in-laws' residence in Meerut.

Questioning the police action, Junaid asked, "What is my crime? Is providing food and water a crime?"

Following reports of the harassment faced by Junaid's family, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) expressed solidarity with him.

In a post on X, the party stated, "Instead of catching criminals, the Uttar Pradesh police are wasting their time by going to the home of our volunteer Mohammad Junaid.

Now the police are harassing his family. We are in touch with him and will never let him and his family become victims."
