Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has suddenly fallen seriously ill while in custody. In response, the Pakistani government has decided to transfer him from prison to a hospital for urgent medical care.
The decision followed a protest launched by his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), at the Parliament House on Saturday (February 14).
Confirming the move, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, stated that the government has officially resolved to move the incarcerated leader to a medical facility.
Medical Evaluation and Oversight
Dr. Chaudhry explained that the former Prime Minister will undergo a series of medical examinations. The government intends to provide specialized treatment, including consultations with ophthalmologists (eye specialists) at a dedicated hospital. Key details of the plan include:
Medical Board: A specialized medical board will be constituted to oversee his treatment.
Official Stance: The Minister emphasized that health is a sensitive issue and should not be politicized. He urged against "baseless propaganda" or seeking political mileage from the situation, asserting that the government would fulfill its responsibility regarding Khan's wellbeing.
PTI Response
Despite the government's announcement, PTI leadership has expressed reservations. The party has formally rejected any transfer to a hospital that takes place without the prior consent of Imran Khan's family and his personal physicians.
