University of South Florida to Award Posthumous Doctorates to Limon and Brishti

The University of South Florida (USF) has decided to award posthumous doctoral degrees to Bangladeshi students Jamil Ahmed Limon and Nahida Sultana Brishti, who were the victims of a brutal double homicide.

The degrees will be conferred during the university's spring convocation ceremony scheduled for May 8.

On Tuesday (May 5, 2026), USF authorities officially notified the Bangladesh Consulate in Miami of the decision via a formal letter.

The university has requested a representative from the Consulate to attend the ceremony and accept the honors on behalf of the bereaved families.

A representative from the Miami Consulate is confirmed to attend the convocation to receive the awards in honor of Limon and Brishti.

Funeral and Repatriation Arrangements
The first funeral prayer (Janaza) for Nahida Sultana Brishti is scheduled to take place in Tampa at 2:00 PM today, Wednesday (May 6).

Her body is slated to be sent to Dhaka on May 7. Traveling via Dubai, the remains are expected to reach Dhaka at 8:40 AM on May 9.

Previously, the body of Jamil Ahmed Limon arrived in Dhaka on May 4.
