252 Judges Transferred Across Bangladesh Simultaneously

A total of 252 judges from various courts across Bangladesh have been simultaneously transferred. The Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law issued five separate gazette notifications regarding these transfers on Monday (June 2).

A.F.S. Golzar Rahman, Deputy Secretary (Administration-1) of the Law and Justice Division, signed these notifications.

The notifications state that 30 District and Sessions Judges and equivalent judicial officers, 38 Additional District and Sessions Judges and equivalent judicial officers, 22 Joint District and Sessions Judges and equivalent judges, and 162 Senior Assistant Judges and Assistant Judges and equivalent judicial officers from various districts have been requested to hand over their current duties to the District and Sessions Judge/Metropolitan Sessions Judge/Chief Metropolitan Magistrate/next senior officer/designated office head by tomorrow, June 3, and to immediately join their new workplaces. The notifications mention that these orders were issued in the public interest.

Promotions Also Announced
Meanwhile, in another notification, in consultation with the Bangladesh Supreme Court, 13 judges of the Bangladesh Judicial Service have been promoted from the rank of Senior Assistant Judge to Joint District and Sessions Judge. This promotion is to the third grade of the salary scale (BDT 54,370-74,460) as per the Bangladesh Judicial Service (Pay and Allowances) Order, 2016. They have been appointed/transferred to the mentioned posts and workplaces until further notice.

It further states that these judges have been directed to hand over their current duties to the District and Sessions Judge/Chief Judicial Magistrate/Chief Metropolitan Magistrate/designated office head on Tuesday (June 3) and to immediately join their promoted posts.

However, one of these judges has been instructed to hand over her current duties to an officer designated by the District and Sessions Judge after her maternity leave ends and to immediately join her transferred workplace.

The notifications state that these orders were issued in the public interest.
