The Appellate Division has upheld the bail granted to former Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in five separate cases.
The apex court on Sunday dismissed five leave-to-appeal petitions filed by the state challenging the High Court’s previous bail orders. With this dismissal, there are no further legal bars to her remaining on bail in these cases.
Police arrested Ivy from her Narayanganj residence on May 9 last year. She was eventually shown arrested in a total of 12 cases, though her name was notably absent from the initial First Information Reports (FIRs) of seven of those cases. Despite a year passing since her detention, investigations into these cases have yet to be completed.
Selina Hayat Ivy served as the chairperson of the Narayanganj Municipality from 2003 to 2011, before making history by winning three consecutive terms as the mayor of the Narayanganj City Corporation.
