Bishwa Ijtema postponed

The upcoming Bishwa Ijtema scheduled to be held on the bank of Turag river has been postponed.

The decision came in a meeting between two Tablig Jamaat fraction and several alems with religious affairs ministry high officials at the home ministry on Thursday. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal presided over the meeting.

Religious affairs Secretary Md. Anisur Rahman told newsmen, all types of gatherings are banned before election. Besides there is dispute prevailing between two groups of Tablig Jamaat. Considering these the Bishwa Ijtema of this year is postponed. It was decided in the meeting.

Anisur Rahman said, the two fractions will sit together and fix the date for Ijtema after the election and Ijtema will be held based on that. Government will provide all types of cooperation in this regard.

It is known that after holding the previous Ijtema the followers of maulana Saad Kandhlavi set the date January 11, 12 and 13 for holding 2019 year’s Ijtema. On the other hand the opponents at a rally on July 28 fixed the date January 18, 19 and 20 for the Bishwa Ijtema. Besides the two groups fixed district wise different date for the congregation.
