Students of Dhaka University (DU) staged a protest at midnight on Tuesday (March 11), demanding the arrest of Lucky Akter, a prominent face of the Gonojagoron Moncho movement.
The demonstrators accused Lucky of plotting and conspiring to organize a "Gonojagoron Moncho-2" event in Shahbagh with the intent of destabilizing the country. They urged authorities to detain and interrogate her over the alleged plans.
Earlier in the evening, members of the platform "Bangladesh Against Rape and Oppression" clashed with police. Later, Lucky Akter—who was active in the 2013 Gonojagoron Moncho movement demanding the trial of war criminals— participated in a torch procession.
During the protest, the former student leader of the Bangladesh Students’ Union (BSU) stated that people across the country are protesting to demand justice against rapists. She accused the government of failing miserably to ensure public safety and called for the immediate resignation of the Home Affairs Adviser for his incompetence.
Nicknamed "Slogan Girl," Lucky also announced that a mass rally would be held at Shahbagh on March 15 at 11 AM to demand justice for rape victims and an improvement in law and order.
