BNP's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, has strongly condemned and expressed deep sorrow over the death of eight-year-old Asiya, who was a victim of a brutal crime in Magura.

In a statement on Thursday (March 13), he said, "The tragic and horrific death of Asiya has left me, along with the entire nation, deeply shaken. The news of her passing has sent shockwaves across the country. Such a loss is completely unacceptable and has brought immense grief and shame to our society. From cities to villages, people are outraged, protesting against this inhumane act. The streets are filled with demonstrations and chants, while many prayed for her recovery until the very end."

Rahman further stated, "When I first learned about this incident, I pledged to support her treatment and legal aid. However, due to a longstanding failure to ensure justice, similar crimes keep recurring. The lack of swift punishment allows perpetrators to escape accountability, leading to an alarming rise in such heinous acts. It is unimaginable that in today’s world, such barbaric and inhumane crimes still take place. Rape is not just a crime—it is an attack on humanity itself and a reflection of our society's moral decay. Even during the holy month of Ramadan, such atrocities continue. We must unite as a society to put an end to violence, harassment, and exploitation of women and children."

He continued, "Since the mass uprising on August 5, people had hoped for an end to incidents of abuse, harassment, and violence against women and children. Yet, these crimes persist. Any form of violence against them is a blatant violation of human rights. The authorities must take strong measures to ensure the security and dignity of women and children. A comprehensive child protection system must be established, ensuring their safety, civil liberties, and digital security. Victims and their families must receive full legal protection. Swift and exemplary punishment for such crimes is necessary to maintain justice and peace in society. This is not only a crime against the present but a dangerous precedent for future generations. We must act now to prevent such horrors from happening again."

Tarique Rahman concluded by praying for Asiya's departed soul and extending his deepest condolences to her grieving family, relatives, and well-wishers.
