Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has urged the international community to take a stronger stance on the Rohingya crisis, emphasizing the critical need for their safe and dignified repatriation.

In a message for World Refugee Day on Thursday, Rahman stated that "a clear message must be given to the world that the Rohingya problem is very serious." He called upon the interim government to escalate diplomatic efforts with Myanmar to facilitate the return of over 1.4 million Rohingya refugees currently in Cox's Bazar camps.

Highlighting the significance of World Refugee Day, observed annually on June 20, Rahman noted its purpose is to "respect refugees across the globe and to raise awareness among international leaders about their inhumane conditions."

He drew a parallel between the Rohingya's plight and the displacement of Bangladeshis during the 1971 Liberation War, remarking that "the tragic experience of Bangladeshis during the Great Liberation War has not been erased from our memories."

Rahman commended the Bangladeshi people for their continued support for the Rohingya, calling it "a shining example of humanity." He reaffirmed BNP's "full solidarity with the spirit of World Refugee Day" and its commitment to global efforts for the dignity and safe repatriation of displaced persons.

Finally, Rahman appealed to the international community and donor agencies to maintain pressure on Myanmar to ensure the dignified repatriation of the Rohingya.
