Maghi Purnima Today

Maghi Purnima, a significant religious festival for Buddhists, is observed today (February 11) with great reverence and solemnity. Various religious programs have been organized nationwide, including in the capital, Dhaka.

According to Buddhist monks, on this full moon day, Lord Gautam Buddha announced to his disciples that he would attain Mahaparinirvana three months later on the sacred Vesak or Buddha Purnima. This prophecy was fulfilled as he passed away on that very day.

In observance of this event, Buddhists reflect on the impermanence of life, engage in meditation for spiritual growth, and take vows to lead a life of morality, mindfulness, and purity.

According to the lunar calendar, the Maghi Purnima phase begins today at 7:25 pm and ends on Wednesday, February 12, at 7:52 pm.
