New Guidelines Issued for Umrah Pilgrims During Ramadan

Saudi Arabian authorities have issued a new set of directives for Umrah pilgrims this Ramadan to ensure safety, order, and a seamless spiritual experience.

With the number of worshippers in Makkah rising significantly during the holy month, specialized plans for crowd management, transportation, and health safety have been implemented, according to a report by Khaleej Times.

Authorities noted that peak congestion typically occurs in the central areas immediately before and after prayer times.

Consequently, pilgrims are urged to use designated pathways, follow directional signage, and adhere strictly to the instructions of security personnel. 

Digital signals have been installed at mosque entrances to manage flow: green indicates available space, while red signifies that the area has reached full capacity.

Traffic and Transport Regulations
To mitigate gridlock, the use of private vehicles has been restricted. Pilgrims are encouraged to utilize public transport, including:

• Buses and Taxis
• The Haramain High-Speed Railway
• Motorcycles, bicycles, and all unauthorized vehicles are strictly prohibited within the central zone surrounding the Holy Mosque.

Accessibility and Safety Measures
Special arrangements have been made for elderly worshippers and people of determination, including dedicated prayer areas and the availability of electric carts. Authorities have also advised parents to avoid bringing children into high-density, crowded areas for their safety.

General health and safety guidelines include:

Hydration & Rest: Pilgrims are advised to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and take adequate rest.

Digital Permits: Carrying a digital Umrah permit remains mandatory.

Fire Safety: Strict adherence to fire safety protocols is required.

Prohibited Activities
The authorities reiterated that carrying weapons, begging, unauthorized vending, and any activity that obstructs the flow of pedestrian movement are strictly forbidden and will face legal consequences.
