The Bangladesh women’s hockey team secured a spot in the final of the Women's Asian Games Qualifying tournament on Tuesday, following a dominant 3-1 victory over Singapore in the first semifinal.
The star of the match was Airin Akter Riya, who delivered a sensational hat-trick to lead her team to victory.
Riya opened the scoring early in the 8th minute with a clinical field goal, giving Bangladesh the lead in the first quarter.
Following a period of intense competition, she struck twice more in the 57th and 58th minutes to complete her hat-trick and seal the win.
For her match-winning performance, Airin was named the player of the match.
The final is set to take place on Wednesday at 7 pm (BST).
This victory follows a historic run for Bangladesh in the tournament. They opened their campaign with a 5-5 draw against Chinese Taipei, followed by a landmark 3-2 victory over Uzbekistan—marking the team's first-ever international win.
Their spot in the upcoming Asian Games was officially confirmed earlier after they defeated Hong Kong 2-1 in their final group stage match.
