US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen on Saturday invited Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and all Bangladeshis to support the United States in the ongoing FIFA World Cup as the team advances through the tournament.

The Ambassador’s comments came following his meeting with the Foreign Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday afternoon.

“So, I was down here for a very important reason. Last night (Friday), the United States won a resounding victory over Australia in the World Cup, moving on to the next round,” the Ambassador told reporters during the briefing.

The United States secured their place in the knockout stage of the expanded 48-team tournament with a decisive 2-0 win over Australia on Friday.

The victory was particularly notable as it was achieved in the absence of star forward Christian Pulisic, who was sidelined due to injury. Following this success, the US clinched the top spot in Group D after Paraguay defeated Turkey 1-0 early Saturday morning.

Reflecting on the team's depth and resilience during Pulisic's absence, Folarin Balogun, who previously scored two goals in the US’s 4-1 victory over Paraguay on June 12, remarked, “C.P. is a fantastic player - the quality and the leadership that he gives us. We didn’t have him today, but I think you saw we’re still capable to go out there and get a result and put up a performance.”

With the group stage concluded, the United States is now set to play its round-of-32 match on July 1 in Santa Clara, California, where they will face a third-place finisher from another group.
