Bangladesh scripted a cricketing fairy tale at the Home of Cricket today, clinching their largest-ever ODI victory against Pakistan. Driven by a lethal bowling spell from Nahid Rana and a batting masterclass by Tanzid Hasan Tamim, the Tigers dismantled the visitors with clinical precision.
Chasing a modest target of 114, Bangladesh reached the mark in just 15.1 overs, marking their biggest win over Pakistan in terms of balls remaining.
This dominant performance eclipses Bangladesh’s previous best against Pakistan set in 2015, where they chased down a target in 39.3 overs. Today, the Shanto-led side shattered those records in spectacular fashion.
Rana’s Five-Wicket Haul Batters Pakistan
After being put into bat, Pakistan’s lineup crumbled under relentless pressure, folding for a mere 114 runs in 30.4 overs—their lowest-ever ODI total against Bangladesh.
The collapse was orchestrated by young pacer Nahid Rana, who claimed his maiden ODI five-wicket haul ("fififer"), conceding only 24 runs.
While Pakistan’s start was steady, the momentum shifted dramatically in the seventh over. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz introduced Rana into the attack during the final over of the Powerplay, and the pacer immediately struck, removing opener Sahibzada Farhan (27) to break a 41-run opening stand.
What followed was a display of pure pace dominance; Rana took a wicket in each of his next four overs, dismissing Shamyl Hussain, Maaz Sadaqat, Mohammad Rizwan, and Salman Ali Agha in quick succession.
The spin department soon joined the fray as Miraz accounted for Abdul Samad, Hussain Talat, and Shaheen Afridi. Taskin Ahmed also contributed by removing Mohammad Wasim.
At 82/9, Pakistan teetered on the edge of a double-digit total before a fighting 37 from Faheem Ashraf pushed the score to 114.
Tanzid’s Blitz Ensures Rapid Chase
The chase of 115 was never in doubt, despite an early setback when Saif Hassan fell for 4. Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim launched a counter-attack from the first ball, demoralizing the Pakistani bowling attack.
Bangladesh raced to 81 runs within the first 10 overs. Tamim reached his half-century in just 32 balls and remained unbeaten on 67, a whirlwind knock featuring seven boundaries and four sixes.
At the other end, Najmul Hossain Shanto provided stable support, allowing Tamim to dictate the tempo and seal the historic win.
