The Vila Belmiro Stadium was packed as fans flocked to witness a historic moment—Neymar’s long-awaited return to his boyhood club, Santos, after 12 years. Though he wasn’t in the starting lineup, his presence alone electrified the atmosphere. However, his team couldn’t secure a victory.
After dazzling Europe and Asia for over a decade, Neymar has returned to Brazil. On Wednesday, February 5—his 33rd birthday—he stepped onto the field for Santos once again. At the time of his entry, Santos was leading 1-0, but a second-half goal from the opposition resulted in a 1-1 draw.
Before leaving for Europe, Neymar had won six trophies with Santos, including the prestigious Copa Libertadores in 2011. At that time, he was regarded as one of the best young talents in the world. In 2013, he made his highly anticipated move to Barcelona, and in 2017, he became part of football history with a record-breaking transfer to PSG for €222 million ($262 million at the time).
In the summer of 2023, Neymar signed with Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal but managed to play only seven matches due to injuries that kept him sidelined for most of the season.
Now, with the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, Neymar has returned to Brazil in hopes of regaining top form. With his spot in the national team at stake, all eyes will be on whether he can rediscover his old magic.
