In a strategic move to strengthen the domestic digital ecosystem, Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) has announced a significant 36 percent discount on the registration and renewal fees for its most popular .bd domain categories.
The initiative, confirmed by the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, aims to encourage individuals and institutions to adopt local domain extensions over generic ones like .com.
The price reductions apply specifically to both Third Level (e.g., abc.com.bd) and Second Level (e.g., abc.bd) domains consisting of more than two characters.
Under the new pricing structure, the registration fee for a Third Level domain has been slashed from BDT 1,100 to BDT 700, while the renewal fee dropped from BDT 1,600 to BDT 1,020. Similarly, the more prestigious Second Level domain registration now costs BDT 1,280, down from BDT 2,000, with its renewal fee reduced to BDT 1,600.
BTCL highlighted several strategic advantages of choosing a .bd extension, noting that it offers higher availability than congested global extensions and provides instant credibility for Bangladesh-based organizations.
Beyond enhancing a professional local image, the .bd domain is governed by domestic registration policies, making it a safer and more reliable choice for government and reputable private entities.
The ministry noted that while these discounted rates are available for a limited time, standard VAT rates and BTRC guidelines will continue to apply.
BTCL expressed optimism that these affordable rates will drive a surge in domestic domain registration, helping to solidify a distinct and secure digital presence for the nation's businesses and citizens.
