The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a warning for potential storms across several parts of the country.

In a Facebook post published on Friday (May 23), the department alerted that strong gusty or squally winds, ranging from 45 to 60 km/h or higher, along with rain or thunderstorms, may affect parts of the following districts by 4 pm: Chapainawabganj, Rajshahi, Naogaon, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Bhola, Noakhali, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, and Rangpur.

In a related bulletin, the department explained that a trough of low pressure extends from West Bengal, India, across southwestern Bangladesh to the northern Bay of Bengal. The southwest monsoon has currently reached the coast of Akyab in Myanmar and is likely to advance further. A new low-pressure system is expected to form over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around May 27.

Additionally, thunderstorm activity accompanied by rainfall is expected in parts of Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, with isolated showers likely in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions throughout the day.
