A well-marked low-pressure area located over the northwest Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas has intensified into a depression. Consequently, all sea ports across the country have been advised to hoist Warning Signal No. 3.

The Meteorological Department shared this update on Thursday morning (29 May).

Under the influence of the depression, rainfall has been occurring since early Thursday in Dhaka and many other parts of the country. The rain is accompanied by gusty winds, especially affecting coastal regions, causing inconvenience for the local population.

Additionally, the Bangladesh Weather Observation Team (BWOT) reported that the country is currently under the impact of a strong and fully developed rain system. This rain system is expected to bring widespread rainfall nationwide. It marks the fifth rain system of the year and the first monsoon-related system. Forecasts suggest it will move out of the country via Rangpur by Tuesday, 3 June.

Rainfall estimates across the divisions due to this system are as follows:

Dhaka: 170 to 220 mm

Khulna: 160 to 250 mm

Barisal: 160 to 250 mm

Sylhet: 200 to 350 mm

Mymensingh: 150 to 220 mm

Rajshahi: 80 to 140 mm

Rangpur: 170 to 300 mm

Chattogram: 190 to 400 mm
