A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has created hazardous conditions in rivers across the region. As a precautionary measure to ensure public safety, all types of vessel operations, both coastal and inland, have been suspended until further notice.

The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) issued the directive on Thursday (May 29), citing the deteriorating weather situation.

According to the announcement, the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas has intensified into a deep depression. In response, local warning signal No. 3 has been raised at seaports, and inland river ports are under warning signal No. 2. As a result, waterways have become dangerously rough.

In light of these developments, the BIWTA has urged all passenger and cargo vessels to suspend operations immediately to protect lives and property. The restriction will remain in effect until new instructions are issued.
