After days of a scorching heatwave across Bangladesh, disrupting daily life, the Bangladesh Weather Observation Team (BWOT) brings a message of some relief.

According to their observations, a very powerful rainstorm named 'Rimjhim' is heading towards the country. This is a full-fledged, monsoon rain system.

While 'Rimjhim' is expected to affect almost all areas of the country, low-lying areas in Rangpur, Sylhet, and Chattogram divisions might face flooding due to excessive rainfall.

BWOT shared this information on their Facebook page on Sunday night (June 15).

In their post, BWOT stated that the powerful monsoon rainstorm 'Rimjhim' is approaching the country. It is a complete rain system, and its influence is expected to bring significant rainfall to all regions.

The post also mentioned that 'Rimjhim' is the sixth rain system and the second monsoon rain system of the current year. It is projected to begin its influence on June 16, entering through the coastal areas, and is expected to leave the country via Sylhet and Chattogram by June 28.

Although 'Rimjhim' will affect almost all parts of the country, its most significant impact will be felt in the Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

Additionally, 'Rimjhim' will be quite active in the Rangpur, Barishal, Dhaka, and Mymensingh divisions, while remaining moderately active in the Khulna and Rajshahi divisions.

As per the forecast, low-lying areas in the Rangpur, Sylhet, and Chattogram divisions could experience floods during this period. While there is no major risk of Kalbaishakhi (nor'westers), moderate to light thunderstorms are possible.

Furthermore, although no major storms are expected, gusty winds might sweep across coastal areas. The sea could also remain somewhat turbulent for most of the time due to variations in monsoon air pressure.
