Four Districts Bracing for 80 km/h Storms; River Ports on Alert

Four districts across Bangladesh are at risk of being hit by storms with wind speeds reaching up to 80 km/h by this afternoon. The Meteorological Department has also warned of potential lightning and heavy rainfall.

According to a weather forecast issued by the Storm Warning Center on Sunday (March 15), effective from 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM, a high-velocity storm system is moving across specific regions of the country.

Regional Alerts and Wind Speeds
A notification signed by meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Faruque states that the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Comilla, and Sylhet regions are most likely to be affected.

The forecast predicts:

  • Wind Speed: 60–80 km/h from the West or North-West.
  • Conditions: High-speed winds accompanied by rain or thundershowers.

Maritime and Inland Safety
In response to the deteriorating weather conditions, the Meteorological Department has instructed river ports in these four districts to hoist Riverine Warning Signal No. 2.

National Outlook
The broader national forecast valid until 6:00 PM indicates that temporary gusty winds and rain or thundershowers may occur in:

  • Many areas of Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions.
  • Isolated areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Barisal divisions.

Both day and night temperatures are expected to drop slightly across the country as the storm system passes.
