Fishermen went to the river to catch hilsa after a two-month ban to protect Jatka. But returned home after getting disappointed. They say, no fish has been caught in the net. The cost of oil of the boat (motorized) is not managed by selling the two or four Hilsa.

The ban on catching Jatka ended a couple of weeks ago. So they went down to the river full of hope and returned by getting disappointed. Fishermen said that if they take oil worth 1500 taka in the boat, they can get fish worth 800 taka. So they cannot go to the river now.

Apart from this, to collect fish of 2-3 thousand Tk, oil costs 3 to 4 thousand Tk. At this time of the season, more than half a hundred small and big fisheries storehouse on the banks of the Meghna of Bhola become busy with the hustle and bustle of buyers and sellers. But there is now a serene silence. The fish box is empty. Merchants are having a lazy time.

The fishermen said that fishermen are not going to the river because there is not enough fish. As a result, the price of fish in the market is increased.

Regarding the drought of fish, the Department of Fisheries says that salinity has increased due to intense heat and lack of rain. As a result, fish are moving towards the sea in search of deep water. And so it is not caught in the fishermen's net.

AFM Najmus Salehin, senior upazila fisheries officer of Bhola Sadar, said that small fish take refuge in Hilsa shelter. These small fishes have gone to the sea. As a result, there is a shortage of Hilsa in the river. Apart from this, the amount of rainfalls so far this season is very low. Due to this decrease, more salt water from the sea is now entering. As a result, the number of fish that come to lay eggs is very low. Because of this, fishermen are currently getting very little Hilsa.

A target of 1 lakh 92 thousand tons of Hilsa has been set in per district this year. The market value of which is about 11 thousand crores.
