Due to Cyclone Remal, the election of 19 upazilas out of 20 postponed in the sixth Upazila Parishad general election. It was held yesterday. Polling started on time in 181 centers on Sunday (June 9), which continued till 4 pm. Out of this, only EVM votes were taken in Mathbaria of Pirojpur. Upazila Parishad elections have been completed by voting in these 19 upazilas.

While there were complaints of various irregularities during the polling, no major untoward incident was reported.

The list of elected chairmans in 19 Upazilas:

Jhalakathi: Emadul Haque Monir has been elected as Chairman for the second time in a row in Kathalia Upazila Parishad elections. Meanwhile, Milon Mahmud Bachchu was elected privately in the Rajapur Upazila Parishad elections. Emadul Haque Monir got 20 thousand 375 votes in Kanthalia. His closest rival Golam Kibria Sikder got 12,681 votes. Milon Mahmud Bachchu got 21 thousand 50 votes in the Rajapur Upazila Parishad elections. His nearest rival Afroza Akhtar Laizu got 16 thousand 820 votes.

Barishal: Municipal Awami League president Monir Hossain Mia has been elected as the Chairman of Upazila Parishad in Gournadi of the district. He received 40 thousand 443 votes. His nearest rival Upzilla Awami League general secretary Harichur Rahman got 36 thousand 924 votes.

Upazila Awami League general secretary Jatindra Nath Mistry has been elected Chairman in Agailjhara upazila. He got 26 thousand 758 votes. His nearest rival Agailjhara Upazila Awami League Vice President Abdur Roich Sherniabat got 25 thousand 869 votes.

Bagerhat: Senior Vice President of Upazila Awami League Abu Taher Howladar has been elected as Chairman of Mongla Upazila Parishad of the district. He got 27 thousand 902 votes. His closest rival is General Secretary of Upazila Jubo League. Iqbal Hossain got 18 thousand 417 votes.

Upazila Freedom Fighter Commander, Morrelganj Awami League Vice President Md. Liakot Ali Khan was elected as Morrelganj Upazila Parishad Chairman. He received 38 thousand 399 votes. His closest rival is the convener of the Upazila Awami Jubo League Md. Mozammel Haque received 26 thousand 729 votes.

Upazila Awami League vice president, current chairman Raihan Uddin Akon Shanto has been re-elected as Chairman of Sharankhola Upazila Parishad. He received 30 thousand 192 votes. His closest rival is General Secretary of Upazila Awami League Asaduzzaman Milon got 18 thousand 815 votes.

Patuakhali: The current chairman of Mirzaganj Upazila Parishad, district Awami League relief and social welfare affairs secretary Khan Md. Abu Bakar Siddiqui wins again. He got 24 thousand 850 votes. His closest rival is the current vice chairman of the council and the former president of Upazila Chhatra League Zahirul Islam got 20 thousand 892 votes.

Former member of District Jubo League at the Patuakhali district Rezaul Karim was elected privately.

Expatriate Awami League leader Kawsar Amin Howladar has been privately elected as Chairman of Dumki Upazila Parishad.

Netrokona: Former General Secretary of Khaliajuri Upazila Jubo League of the district Shamchuzzaman Talukder has won the post of Chairman. He got 20 thousand 603 votes. His nearest rival former upazila chairman Kibria Jobbar got 18 thousand 15 votes.

Barguna: Enamul Hossain has won in Patharghata Upazila Parishad elections of the district. He is the former General Secretary of Patharghata Upazila Chhatra League. Upazila Awami League organizational secretary Md. Mizanur Rahman.

has been elected as Chairman of Bamna upazila.

Pirojpur: Md Bayezid won in Mathbaria upazila of the district. He is the former president of Dhaka Metropolitan South Chhatra League.

Khulna: Upazila Awami League Joint General Secretary Anando Mohon Biswas has won the post of Chairman in Paikgacha Upazila Parishad elections.

District Awami League member Gazi Ejaz Ahmed has been re-elected as Chairman in Dumuria.

GM Mohsin Reza was elected in Koira upazila. He is the president of Upazila Awami League.

Bhola: BNP leader Akhtaruzzaman has won the Lalmohan Upazila Parishad election in the district. BNP has two committees in Lalmohan. Akhtaruzzaman is the general secretary of one of these committees.

On the other hand, upazila Awami League general secretary Fazlul Haque Dewan was elected as Chairman in Tazumuddin, Bhola.

PDB cuts power production by half as cyclone Remal batters

Railway Minister announced sale date of advance train ticket for Eid

Railway Minister Md. Zillul Hakim announced the date of advance ticket sale of Eid-ul-Adha train. He made the announcement at a press conference held at the Railway Bhaban on Tuesday (May 28). Minister Hakim said that the advance sale of railway tickets will start from June 2 and continue until June 6. All ticket sales will be conducted exclusively at online to streamline the process and ensure a smooth transaction experience for passengers. The Railway Minister said that the sale of return tickets will start from June 10. This time 10 pairs of Eid special trains will run for passengers. He said that tickets for June 12 will be available on June 2, June 13 will be available on June 3, June 14 will be available on June 4, June 15 will be available on June 5 and June 16 will be available on June 6. Zillul Hakim also said that the return tickets for June 20 will be available on June 10, June 21 will be available on June 11, June 22 will be available on June 12, June 23 will be available on June 13 and June 24 will be available on June 14. To accommodate the increased travel demand, 10 pairs of Eid special trains will be operated for passengers. The ticket sale for the western region will commence daily at 8 a.m., while the eastern region's ticket sale will start at 2 p.m. The minister said that the 'Cattle Express' will operate from June 12 to 14 in the Western region for transporting sacrificial animals. And in the Eastern region, 'Cattle Express' will operate from June 12 and 13.

BSEC orders to freeze BO accounts of Benazir including wife, daughters

Capital market regulator Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has ordered to freeze BO accounts of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and his family members. The order was issued on Monday (May 27) in the name of Benazir Ahmed and his wife Zeeshan Mirza, eldest daughter Farhin Rishta binte Benazir and younger daughter Tahsin Raisa bint Benazir. According to the instructions of BSEC in this regard, no transaction can be done as these BOs while they are blocked. That is, shares cannot be traded and money cannot be deposited or withdrawn from these BO accounts. According to relevant sources of BSEC, Benazir Ahmed and his family members have six BO accounts in the stock market. According to the BSEC directive, in view of the relevant order of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court, six BO accounts in five brokerage houses have been ordered to be frozen until further orders. Earlier on May 23 and 26, in view of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) application, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Assamach Jaglul Hossain ordered the seizure (croc) of various property documents, flats and shares of the company in the name of Benazir Ahmed, his wife and children. On May 26, the court ordered attachment of 119 immovable properties in the name of former police chief Benazir Ahmed, his wife and daughter. No casualties have been reported in the earthquake so far. Apart from Dhaka, the earthquake felt in different parts of the country including Chattogram, Sylhet.

Results of the 3rd phrase upazila polls

The third phase of the sixth upazila parishad polls held in 87 upazilas across the country on Wednesday (May 29). The voting began at 8:00 am and ended at 4:00 pm. The list of elected chairmans in 87 upazilas: Bogura: District Jubo League President Shubhashish Poddar Liton has been elected chairman of Bogra sadar upazila parishad. Rangamati: The third phase of Langadu and Naniarchar upazila parishad elections in Rangamati was held. Langadu upazila Awami League general secretary, Babul Das Babu elected as chairman. On the other hand, Amar Jiban Chakma elected unofficially after receiving 6,159 votes in all 14 polling centers in Naniarchar. Satkhira: Mashiur Rahman Babu and Aminul Islam Laltu have been elected unofficially as chairman of Satkhira Sadar and Kalaroa upazila parishads. The results were announced unofficially from their respective upazila returning offices. Moulvibazar: Imtiaz Ahmed Bulbul unofficially elected from Kamalganj upazila parishad election securing 46,640 votes. On the other hand, Bhanulal Roy unofficially won the post of upazila chairman in 87 centers of Sreemangal upazila receiving 42 thousand 669 votes. RAB ASP Uttam Kumar banned from leaving Bangladesh
