After several days of continuous heavy rains and rivers flowing down from upstream continue to rise. In this situation, the flood situation may worsen in six districts in the next 24 hours.
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center reported this information on Friday (July 5).
It said that the water level of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna rivers is increasing, which may continue for the next 48 hours. The level of water in the Ganga-Padma rivers is also rising, which may continue for the next 72 hours. However, the water level of the major rivers in the northeastern part of the country is decreasing overall, which may continue for the next 24 hours.
According to meteorological agencies, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the northern and adjoining uplands of the country and moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in the northeastern and adjoining uplands in the next 24 hours.
In this situation, in the next 24 hours, the flood situation of Kurigram, Jamalpur, Gaibandha, Bogura, Tangail, and Sirajganj districts along the Brahmaputra-Jamuna river may deteriorate somewhat.
The forecast also said that the Padma river may flow above the warning level at Goalanda Point in the next 48 hours. However, in the next 24 hours, the overall flood situation in various low-lying areas of the Northeast may improve slightly.
Apart from this, in the next 24 hours, the water of Teesta, Dharla, Dudhkumar, and Ghaghat rivers in the northern part of the country may increase rapidly. As a result, the waters of the Teesta, Dharla, and Dudhkumar rivers may flow over the boundary in the short term at some points.
At the same time, in the next 48 hours, the water of Jamunashwari, Karatoa, Bangali, Upper Karatoa, Punarbhaba, Tangon, Ichamati-Jamuna, Atrai, Mahananda, and Chhota Jamuna rivers in the northern and northwestern parts of the country may increase rapidly.
