2 million people affected by flood in 15 districts

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Ministry Md. Mohibbur Rahman said that about two million people in 15 districts of the country have been affected by the heavy rains and the floods caused by the water coming down from upstream.

The state minister said this at a press conference about the country's flood situation at the secretariat on Saturday (July 6).

The state minister said that so far, Tk 3 crore 10 lahks, 8 thousand 700 tons of relief rice, 58 thousand 500 sacks of dry bags and other food items, Tk 60 lakh for buying baby food, and 60 lahks for buying cow feed have been allocated in all flood-affected districts. All the people of 15 districts are not water-bound. Some districts are partially flooded. So far 36 thousand 223 people have taken shelter in the shelter center.

Stating that the government is working on flood-affected areas, the State Minister said, there is a danger of another flood in August or the next month (September). We are making preparations for the next flood as directed by the Prime Minister. He said we are working in coordination with everyone. We will also speak directly to the District Administrators.

The flood-affected districts are Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrakona, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Rangpur, Jamalpur, Gaibandha, Feni, Rangamati, Bogura, Kurigram, Sirajganj, Lalmonirhat and Cox's Bazar.
