The court directed the police to record a complaint against 7 people including Awami League president and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the shooting death of a grocer named Abu Sayeed in Mohammadpur.
Rajesh Chowdhury, the magistrate of Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court, gave this verdict on Tuesday (August 13) around 3:30 pm.
Mohammadpur police station has been directed to record the murder case.
The other six accused in the case are Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Inspector General of Police Abdullah Al Mamun, Joint Commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarkar, former DB Chief Harun-or-Rashid and DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman.
Earlier today, an application was filed to take up the case in the same court. Because of the application, the court recorded the statement of the plaintiff Amir Hamza Shatil around noon. Later the court ordered to record the case.
It has been mentioned in the statement that grocer Abu Sayeed was killed in the indiscriminate firing of police during the quota reform movement on July 19 in Bosila of Mohammadpur. Apart from this, it has been reported that 580 people have been killed so far in clashes around the quota reform movement.
Later, Sheikh Hasina left the country and went to India after resigning on 5th August in a student uprising. Currently, she is staying there.
