The court issued a ruling asking why the fifteenth amendment of the constitution should not be declared invalid.
High Court dual bench issued the ruling on Monday (August 19) afternoon.
On June 30, 2011, the fifteenth amendment to the constitution was passed during the tenure of the then Awami League government. This amendment brought some significant changes in the constitution.
The amendment also recognized Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the hero of Bangladesh's independent war, as the father of the nation.
At the same time the caretaker government system was abolished. The amendment provides for the holding of national elections under a party government within 90 days before the end of the parliament and keeping the parliament intact.
Apart from this, the number of seats reserved for women in the National Parliament has been increased from 45 to 50.
