The court has granted a five-day remand to R. A. M. Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, former housing and public works minister, in the case of the murder of BNP activist Makbul at the capital's Paltan police station.

He was sent to court on Friday (November 1). Later, the investigating officer of the case and Deputy Inspector of Paltan Model Police Station Nazmul Hasan applied for a 10-day remand for proper investigation of the case. After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehra Mahbub's court granted his five-day remand.

Morshed Hossain Shaheen, the lawyer of the defendant, told the media that former minister Obaidul Muktadir was implicated in a false case for political reasons. He is not involved in the attack on the BNP office.

Earlier, he was arrested in the capital's Mirpur area on Thursday (October 31) night.

According to the statement of the case on December 10, 2022, the BNP announced a program to collect one-sided demands for the fall of the government. Earlier on December 7, Harun or Rashid, Mehedi Hasan, and Biplab Kumar of the DB Police ransacked the Nayapaltan office of the BNP and attacked thousands of activists in the movement.
A BNP worker named Makbul Hossain was shot and died. In this incident, on September 30, Mahfuzur Rahman became the plaintiff and filed a case against 256 people including Sheikh Hasina.

Incidentally, Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury is a former Member of Parliament (MP) and District Awami League President of Brahmanbaria-3 (Sadar and Bijoynagar) constituencies. He served as the Minister of Housing and Public Works in Sheikh Hasina's Council of Ministers.
