Arrest Warrants Issued Against 5 in Ashulia Corpse Burning Case
Arrest warrants have been issued by the International Crimes Tribunal against former MP Saiful Islam and four others in a case involving the burning of six corpses during the anti-discrimination student movement in Ashulia, Dhaka.
A three-member tribunal bench, led by Chairman Justice Md, issued this order. Golam Mortuza Majumder, on Tuesday (December 24).
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tazul Islam told the media that an investigation into the incident revealed that the culprits burned the corpses in a police vehicle to escape. Video evidence shows former MP Saiful Islam firing a gun himself. Therefore, the tribunal has issued arrest warrants, requiring them to be presented in court.
He added that the other four accused are police officers, apart from former MP Saiful Islam. The tribunal has directed an updated report on the matter to be submitted by January 25.
Earlier, on September 11, allegations were filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 70 others in two separate cases related to the killing of six people by burning during the anti-discrimination student movement in Ashulia.
Advocate Hujjatul Islam Khan filed these two complaints on behalf of the victims’ families with the International Crimes Tribunal's investigation agency.
