Dr Yunus Arrives in Switzerland

Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the interim government, has arrived in Switzerland to attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

According to Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Mazumdar, the Chief Advisor landed in Switzerland on Tuesday, January 21, at 5:20 pm Bangladesh time. He was welcomed at Zurich airport by Tarek Md Ariful Islam, Bangladesh's Permanent Representative in Geneva.

Earlier on Monday night (January 20), Dr Yunus departed from Dhaka for Davos, Switzerland. During his visit, he is scheduled to attend the WEF annual summit in Davos and hold bilateral meetings with several global leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Belgian King Philippe, and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

Additionally, Dr Yunus is expected to meet Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, daughter of the UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as well as Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, Sir Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs at Meta, Dr Agnes Callamard, Secretary-General of Amnesty International, and Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

A separate dialogue focused on Bangladesh will also be held during the main conference, bringing together global business leaders and heads of international organizations.

The four-day official visit is set to conclude with Dr Yunus returning to Bangladesh on January 25.
