Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has stated that China always prioritizes Bangladesh in its neighborly diplomacy and adheres to a good-neighborly policy concerning the people of Bangladesh.

He made these remarks during a meeting with Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain in Beijing on Tuesday, January 21. The information was reported by China Daily. Adviser Touhid Hossain arrived in Beijing on Monday night for a four-day visit, marking his first foreign trip since taking office, at the invitation of the Chinese Foreign Minister.

According to the China Daily report, during the meeting, Wang Yi expressed China's interest in deepening pragmatic cooperation with Bangladesh and advancing Belt and Road cooperation to strengthen bilateral ties further.

Wang Yi highlighted that Touhid Hossain's decision to choose China for his first foreign visit reflects the importance the interim government of Bangladesh places on China-Bangladesh relations. He added that China is undergoing extensive reforms and modernization, creating new opportunities for various countries, especially neighboring ones.

The Chinese Foreign Minister urged Touhid Hossain to coordinate efforts to increase people's income through implementing small and large-scale projects and to explore emerging sectors to integrate historical cooperation between the two countries.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh, as well as the China-Bangladesh Cultural Exchange Year. Wang Yi expressed China's readiness to strengthen strategic communication and advance the strategic cooperative partnership to further this historic friendship.

In response, Adviser Touhid Hossain thanked China for its support in protecting Bangladesh's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity and reaffirmed Bangladesh's strong support for the One-China policy. He stated that all political parties in Bangladesh value friendship with China, which enjoys support from the government and the entire nation.

He also mentioned Bangladesh's eagerness to engage with China in various international forums, strengthen coordination on regional issues, work as a partner in connectivity and regional economic integration, and jointly uphold international fairness and justice.

Notably, Bangladesh was the first country in South Asia to sign a memorandum of understanding with China on Belt and Road cooperation.
