Moshiur Rahman, Secretary of the Bangladesh branch of the World Poultry Science Association, has expressed optimism that eggs and chicken meat will remain within consumers' purchasing power during the upcoming Ramadan.
Speaking at a seminar organized by the Fisheries and Livestock Journalists Forum at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Thursday (February 13), he highlighted market trends and industry advancements.
He stated, "On the night before Eid, market demand surges, leading to price increases. While we cannot fully control this spike, we expect prices to remain within an affordable range. Additionally, increasing egg production for just two days is not a viable solution."
Addressing concerns about affordability, he explained that Bangladesh has adopted cutting-edge poultry technology, reducing production costs. "Previously, we had to travel abroad to witness technological advancements in poultry farming. Now, international exhibitions are being held in our own country," he noted.
He also discussed sustainability efforts, emphasizing that large-scale waste composting could generate up to 100 megawatts of electricity while reducing carbon emissions and managing waste efficiently.
The seminar was attended by several industry leaders, including RTV's Head of News Ilias Hossain, organization Secretary Zahidur Rahman, Organizing Secretary Bayezid Munshi, and Breeders Association President Mahbub Rahman.
