Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has reiterated that the next general election will be held between December this year and June next year.
In a national address marking Independence Day and the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, Prof Yunus reaffirmed his commitment to a transparent electoral process.
"As I have stated before, the election will take place between December this year and June next year," he said.
He assured that the government is dedicated to ensuring the most free, fair, and credible election in Bangladesh’s history. The Election Commission has already begun preparations, and he expressed hope that political parties will participate actively.
Prof Yunus also highlighted the ongoing work of the Consensus Commission, which is gathering opinions from all political parties.
"The commission's goal is to identify areas of agreement and compile them into a document known as the July Charter. Political parties that endorse these principles will sign the charter," he explained.
Emphasizing the caretaker government's role, he pledged to maintain transparency throughout the process and ensure elections are conducted once preparations are complete.
