Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government, has been honored with an honorary doctorate degree from Peking University in China.
The award was presented at a ceremony held in the university's conference hall on Saturday (March 29) morning.
Dr Yunus arrived in China on March 26 for a four-day visit. Upon landing at Qionghai Boao Airport in Hainan, he received a red-carpet welcome and a warm reception from the Chinese government.
The following day, March 27, he delivered a speech at the opening session of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2025.
On March 28, Dr Yunus met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing for a bilateral discussion. On the same day, Bangladesh and China signed an economic and technological cooperation treaty along with eight Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).
He later participated in an investment dialogue with Chinese business leaders. He also joined three roundtable discussions covering sustainable infrastructure and energy investment, Bangladesh's next-generation production and market opportunities, and the role of social business and youth entrepreneurship in a "three-zero world."
Additionally, Dr Yunus met with China's Executive Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, Minister of Water Resources Li Guoying, Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, and former UN Secretary-General and Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Chairman Ban Ki-moon.
