Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, has stated that no unlawful actions were taken against Meghna Alam, the winner of Miss Earth Bangladesh 2020.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order at the Secretariat on Tuesday (April 15), he said, "Actions taken against model Meghna Alam are based on existing laws. Special provisions are being applied where applicable. There's nothing illegal about it."
He added, "Investigations into the allegations and events are ongoing. The matter is now before the High Court, so it would be inappropriate to comment further while the case is sub judice. We'll wait to see what the court decides."
On April 13, the High Court issued a rule asking why the 30-day detention order against Meghna Alam should not be declared unlawful.
That same day, legal adviser Asif Nazrul remarked that the arrest procedure followed in Meghna Alam's case was improper. "It's not that she is entirely without fault," he said. "But the investigation is still underway."
