The tragic death of an eight-year-old child rape victim has sparked widespread outrage and grief across Bangladesh, with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman expressing deep shock, shame, and sorrow. In a post on his ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle, Rahman condemned the heinous crime and called for urgent national action.

"The tragic death of an eight-year-old child rape victim has left us all in shock, shame, and sorrow," Rahman stated. "Young children and women across the country should never face violence, assault, and harassment."

Rahman emphasized the need for national introspection, urging the nation to confront the root causes of such violence. "We must look inwards as a nation, as a people, to ensure these injustices do not happen in a Bangladesh where everyone's liberties and rights are to be respected," he said, pledging to "do everything possible to support victims of such horrific crimes in their journey for justice."

In a move to provide immediate assistance, the BNP has established two dedicated cells: one for medical support and the other for legal assistance. These cells, staffed by numerous women doctors and lawyers, will offer free, professional, and, if necessary, discreet support to victims and their families.

Rahman also directed sharp criticism towards the interim government, demanding immediate action to improve the country's law and order situation. "The interim government must take immediate action and significantly improve the law and order situation to safeguard every mother, sister, and daughter in every corner of Bangladesh," he asserted.

Highlighting the BNP's commitment to women's empowerment, Rahman pledged that the party would lead efforts to create a safe, equal, and fair society for all. "As the political party that pioneered women’s empowerment in Bangladesh, BNP is committed to leading the charge again, and create a safe, equal, and fair society for all, irrespective of gender, creed, or political opinion," he concluded.
