The Election Commission (EC) has decided to reinstate Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's registration, including its 'Daripalla' (scales) symbol.
Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah informed journalists of this decision on Wednesday (June 4) afternoon at the Election Building.
He stated, "We have taken the symbol issue into consideration. The party was granted registration with this symbol in the same gazette in 2008. Furthermore, according to the RPO (Representation of the People Order), if a symbol is assigned to a party, it remains reserved for that party. The party will receive registration with the symbol."
Referring to a detailed review of the Appellate Division's observations regarding the DSCC (Dhaka South City Corporation) election, the Election Commissioner said, "We have also reviewed the references. We believe the EC has completed its work by publishing the gazette."
Earlier today, the decision to return the 'Daripalla' symbol to Jamaat-e-Islami was made during a commission meeting held at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner A.M.M. Nasir Uddin. Sanaullah later conveyed this information to the press.
